It’s Monday, March 9th, What are you Reading?

gothamgirl

It’s Monday, March 9, 2015. It’s the 10th Monday of the year! Hosted by Sheila at Book Journey, Monday is a great day to take stock of what you’re currently reading.

I like it because it holds me accountable. And, because I succeeded at the 120 books read in 2014 (via Goodreads), I agreed to read 200 in 2015—I’ve done it before, and for many years read at least that many, but life has come in the way. But, beyond that, I want to publish more reviews this year. I have so many that I’ve written that have not been transcribed. This is a huge oversight and does nothing to help my cause. I need entries to make everyone interested! This is a predominantly a review blog and without those reviews, I have nothing to offer. So, provided I read an average of 15-20 books a month, I can do this! And, I would love to hear your goals.

So this past week was a bit of an odd week. We have been having major issues with our internet sevice through Comcast, which has meant posting very little or via my cellphone. We had 7 outages lasting at least 30 minutes within the last 10 days (Well, since we swapped it out on Friday, we have not yet had any—please cross your fingers for us!).

Since last Monday, I posted a review on Liane Moriarty’s The Last Anniversary. GothamGal put in her thoughts (what a great way to celebrate International Women’s Day!) about Cinderella’s spy activities in Fairest Volume 4: Of Mice and Men.

I posted quickly from our board gaming session at a friends house (we played The Resistance twice and Smallworld once!). We celebrated #WorldBookDay with a  picture of Picard in bed with a book! I asked what your favorite location books were/if there were books set in your region. And talked about getting sucked into a book I did not yet anticipate reading.

This week I am reading:

download This will be a little bit of a geek out week, I think. I got this specifically as a pick up in the store when I read that Riker is a mastermind behind a huge threat to Picard. That he might even be blowing up Federation ships! How is it possible that someone behind Riker-beard could do that?!? It also brings in Dax and a few other characters fans of ANY of the series may be familiar with. I used to read a lot more of the Star Trek books, so this is a welcome home, of sorts, for me.

Astonish-MeThis was an unexpected pickup, and maybe because I have a family member that IS a ballerina (and a lifelong dream of doing ballet) that drew me to this literary fiction. I love that it’s a different cover, that looks more vintage, but I also like to think that there’s a better reason for the change in cover in the trade paperback.download (1)

Can I just say how much I love Veronica Mars? I am savoring and rewarding myself with this book whenever I get a chance. I love the noir aspects of the universe and the cover art is great. I really need to go ahead and finish watching the Veronica Mars movie already, just so I can get a deeper understanding of what is going on and not spoil some of what goes on in this book. After I finish this, I have the second in the series, and I have a feeling it will be picked up right after I finish this one. 41m0N7IIcsL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

This is a book for the #NovelTeaBookClub—I love that we are reading a non-fiction book this month. As someone who can do both team and solo projects, I want to say that there are a few things that make me think I am introverted, but just in certain circumstances. I am not quite certain, yet, and will know more once I finish the book—I hope.

There’s a really cool article about writing from Stephen King here. As someone whom is working on a longer story (that I will talk about when I am much later in the process) I find him inspiring—and I really need to finish On Writing. The Kindle and I are having issues right now. I want to read the paperbacks that I am reading (above) in bed, but it doesn’t happen (mostly because my husband gets up at 3 AM and the light might wake him. I feel like, to borrow a phrase from a dear friend, I have reading ADD. I just can’t get into something for any length of time.

So, what are you reading? Have you linked up at Book Journey yet? Please let me know what you are reading below!

I love Stephen King’s On Writing. I don’t usually read those types of books but I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed the TV series Veronica Mars, but wondered what the books were like!

I’m currently reading “There’s Something About St. Tropez” by Elizabeth Adler. Being a travel enthusiast, I love her books because they always center around an exotic location peppered with mystery, adventure and romance.

    I’m also a Veronica Mars fan! 🙂

As a stay at home homeschooling mommy…I don’t have a lot of time to do my reading. I am busy this month trying to get some in since it is National Reading Month. I have started In Between by Jenny B. Jones, and Thick as Thieves by Susan K. Marlow. Between all the picture books we are reading, we are also enjoying Mrs. Piggle Wiggle and Little House in the Big Woods for our family read a-louds. Thank you for telling me about Book Journey…I am heading over there next!

Greetings from Blogelina! I am always so impressed by prolific readers; I cannot even begin to fathom reading 200 books in one week. Perhaps if I start with just one… Of the books you mention, “Quiet” looks like it might just be written for me. Thanks for your suggestions and inspiration! Didi

I am not a good book reader. Currently I have been reading a lot of blogs. However when I do pull up a book I enjoy non fiction.

Wow, you are a super power reader. I have been reading a Mom’s bible study with my Holy Cross Mom’s group and it has been enjoyable. Reading Charlotte’s Web to my boys. They love it.

Wow, 15-20 books a week? I admire you! I’m a book lover too but if I finish one book a week I’m already proud of myself! I just can’t seem to find the time for it. Currently I’m reading (well, actually listening to) a classic: How to make friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie. I bought the audiobook and listened to it while at the ophthalmologist. They had dilated my pupils so reading was impossible! I’m curious, do you like audiobooks as well? I know some book lovers hate them.

I love the idea of having a cyber reading club. I was a member of Goodreads, but I got too many emails and instead of adjusting that, I just deleted my profile. I read a ton. Right now, I’m finishing the last 50 Shades series – I started it before seeing the movie with a girlfriend. I love leaving reviews and I have no idea how to review this series. It wasn’t as bad as people said, but not something I see myself re-listening too.

I’m also re-reading a series on my Kindle that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I love that Amazon tracks what I read/listen too and suggests more. There are some truly talented (and some not so talented) writers out there and they give me the courage to keep on plugging away and stretch my wings a little on l my blog.

    Thanks for the recommendations!!!!

Looking forward to hearing how you like the book Quiet! I love interesting non-fiction reads. We had a quiet woman in our book club, when she spoke she chose her words wisely and she had the most thoughtful comments of anyone in our bookclub!

We are reading Towards Infinity, by the ex-wife of Stephen Hawking the physicist. It is fascinating to see the inside of the world that seemed so well organised on the outside was an epic struggle on a day to day basis.

As I’ve gotten older, my reading taste has been oriented more towards non-fiction books. Although, I used to love to read Stephen King and V.C. Andrews books.

My current read is called Tortured for Christ by Rev. Richard Wurmbrand. It is a story about what he went through after many years of torture while imprisoned in a Communist prison for his belief in Christianity. It is such an eye-opening and moving story.

I am way behind on my reading because of several projects I am working on right now. But once my big project is done, in April, I’ve got time to read built into my schedule again.

I hope you get a chance to finish On Writing. I thought it was a great book and had a lot of useful advice.

Wow. 200 books in a year? Really? Amazing. How do you find the time? I got through one book this past two months.
I would love to read more and have a kindle so maybe it is just a matter of getting down to it?

I’m not big on reading and I embrace that and own that with pride. I’ve tried reading books and novels but it’s just not my thing. I will and can read spiritual books & self-help books but that’s about as far as my reading goes. My friend, however, can read a book in a weekend if she puts her mind to it.

Currently I am reading an ebook my friend wrote called 10 Simple Insights to Living a Happy Life, by Nick Myers. It’s a great book! I do not read that much in regards to actual books. I don’t even think I’ve read 200 books my entire life. But all I can say is wow! that is awesome you can do that 🙂

WOW! I didn’t even realize it was possible for someone to read 150-200 books in one year. You’re amazing. I am finishing the book by Fawn Weaver, Happy Wives Club. Next I plan to re-read Crystal Paine’s book, Say Goodbye to Survival Mode. Thanks for this great post.

Unfortunately, I am not reading anything right now. Good idea, to make a goal at the beginning of the year to read X amount of books. I like it when I find a book that I cannot put down & have tons on my kindle that need to be read.

Wow 200 books in 2015! That would be so awesome! I used to love to read as much as that. Unfortunately since I had kids, I just can’t seem to find the time to read like I used to.

I’ve been meaning to read On Writing for ever, something always gets in the way! At the moment I’m reading The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency – the action seems a bit slow, but I’m loving the language, lots of wordplay and fun metaphors.

Wow, 15-20 books a month is a lot! I love to read and usually have about 3-4 books going at a time, but rarely finish one within a month these days due to homeschooling my children plus an infant in the house. I don’t get much sleep right now because of the baby. I hope to get back to reading more soon when our routine gets established again.

Ever since I got married and got blessed with two kids, I literally stop reading books. As a full time mom, my time is spent mostly on taking care of the family. A year ago, I started missing reading and I decided to pick up on the hobby again. It even inspired me to write a book myself. Bottom line is, I guess, is that once you’re a reader, you’ll always be a reader. 🙂

Oh, On Writing in a wonderful gift to all writers! I listend to the audio version and love it because he reads the book. It’s like having a master class with Stephen King. If your kindle is not working and your library has a copy of the CD’s, I can’t recommend the audio version enough.

Wow! 200 book in one year! 15 – 20 books a month! How do you find the time to read that many? I can’t think of the last book that I actually finished. {that wasn’t a children’s book} I just don’t have the time to sit down and read.
