Birth of an American Gigolo by Deek Rhew

I love a good, dark comedy. Especially when the comedy in question takes elements from real life that we’re all aware of. Birth of an American Gigolo by Deek Rhew introduced me to Deek Rhew (a new to me author) and a story that won’t leave my mind anytime soon.

The town of Alabaster Cove is in need of a little… excitement. Or, at least that’s what Lindsey decides when she chooses to open a sex-based business where men will spend quality time with the ladies within the Cove. Tired of seeing her husband (and others) take advantage of their positions and leave the women of the Cove driving crappy cars, spend hours raising children and keep homes enviable for the business man(aka jerks) they are married to. Lindsey enlists Dios, the nephew of her husband’s paramour, to help her. His testosterone racing, Dios decides he doesn’t need training to be the lover of women he knows himself to be. However, when a salesclerk starts nesting around him, Dios realizes he doesn’t know everything about how to handle women, and goes crawling back to Lindsey. But will Lindsey allow him to get back into her good graces?

I felt like this is an introductory novel to a much larger world, once that I definitely want to learn more about. Birth of an American Gigolo by Deek Rhew had me laughing and summarily plotting. Lindsay’s character is immediately likeable. And I felt like everyone at some point has been in a situation where they felt like they had no power. But Lindsay turns it around and completely takes control. She is a rockstar! I would not want to mess with her.

I did not want to like Dios in the beginning. It seemed like there was a story that was not 100% on the level, and I found myself not trusting him. However, I was mildly surprised with the character development in this 99-page work. The story is complete, but instantly makes the reader crave more.

I recommend Birth of an American Gigolo by Deek Rhew to anyone who likes Desperate Housewives or a quick read, with elements that will leave you begging for more.
