The Sandman, Annotated Vol 1 Or: Unexpected Mail that turns your day around
A few weeks ago, the Bloggess posted a challenge to readers–post a book that you think you need right now to a special wishlist on Amazon and she would fulfill some of the requests. To say I had low expectations that I would be considered was an overstatement.
I put up the book above, the Annotated Sandman volume 1, on my list. I’ve never read this series, and while I adore Gaiman’s work in the youth forum, I’ve read very few things (apart from his awesome blog) Â in his adult work. Well, apart from Ocean at the End of the Lane and Neverwhere and Stardust. I keep hearing Sandman represents his best work, and I’m always afraid that I’m not going to ‘get’ it, hence the need for annotations.
A box was waiting for me when we got back to our temporary housing on Sunday. I was confused because I wasn’t planning on anything. But, at the same time, I was floored. I felt the tingle in my nose and eyes and cried. The fact that the Bloggess fulfilled this made me feel like someone realized I needed this right now. They realized that there was some stress going on in my life and some care was needed. It made my heart happy. I carefully peeled the plastic and dug into it. And I’m savoring it.
I immediately started paying it forward, RAKing some letters to a few people, which was a great way to start feeling back in the mix. I feel like I personally felt the most important aspect of paying it forward. Sooo necessary.
