The Sandman, Annotated Vol 1 Or: Unexpected Mail that turns your day around

A few weeks ago, the Bloggess posted a challenge to readers–post a book that you think you need right now to a special wishlist on Amazon and she would fulfill some of the requests. To say I had low expectations that I would be considered was an overstatement.

I put up the book above, the Annotated Sandman volume 1, on my list. I’ve never read this series, and while I adore Gaiman’s work in the youth forum, I’ve read very few things (apart from his awesome blog)  in his adult work. Well, apart from Ocean at the End of the Lane and Neverwhere and Stardust. I keep hearing Sandman represents his best work, and I’m always afraid that I’m not going to ‘get’ it, hence the need for annotations.

A box was waiting for me when we got back to our temporary housing on Sunday. I was confused because I wasn’t planning on anything. But, at the same time, I was floored. I felt the tingle in my nose and eyes and cried. The fact that the Bloggess fulfilled this made me feel like someone realized I needed this right now. They realized that there was some stress going on in my life and some care was needed. It made my heart happy. I carefully peeled the plastic and dug into it. And I’m savoring it.

I immediately started paying it forward, RAKing some letters to a few people, which was a great way to start feeling back in the mix. I feel like I personally felt the most important aspect of paying it forward. Sooo necessary.
