Review:: Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin by Kathy Griffin

“Suck It!” Kathy Griffin is known for her trademark wit and sassy attitude. People who have wondered if Griffin has always been this way can find out in her memoir Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin (by the way, the answer is a resounding YES!)

Griffin details her early life, and is painfully honest when it comes to even the harshest events in her life. But, as Griffin has learned firsthand, the hard stuff teaches you, and if Griffin’s case is any indicator, helps you shine brighter than the other stars.

Through filming movies, a marriage, various stand up routines, television deals and everything in between (usually with mom Maggie by her side), Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin is a funny, honest piece of life as Kathy Griffin.

I really like Kathy Griffin, especially after reading this book. I was unaware of so many of the things that had happened to her, including the eating disorders and abuse she suffered–it’s hard to believe someone I see as so strong would face such issues, but the important thing to remember is that these experiences helped shape her.

I purchased this at a book signing event, signed by Kathy herself. She also signed my Barnes and Noble Nook ereader. Overall, it was a fun read and it was really great to meet the author before reading the book–if anything it created even more excitement.

I look forward to any other future author events, as well as any other book Ms. Griffin may write. I think know if I had the chance to see Kathy Griffin again, in any capacity, I would. I also highly recommend it.
